2000 Diapers

Today we spent the entire day in our pjs. We had lots of great family time and even got a few things done around the house. We also figured out that the twins are around 110 days old which means we've gone through about 2000 diapers!  Crazy eh?  Thanks to our wonderful friends we were given over 4000 diapers so we are only half way through our stash.
I've mentioned before that our babies are really good sleepers.  Lately they have been able to scoot around their crib even though they are swaddled.  Last night we put them 2 feet apart and they managed to scoot themselves together.  The problem is that they end up kicking each other and waking each other up.
Tonight we put the babies in their own cribs in the same room so that they couldn't kick each other.  Josie was asleep when we put her in her crib.  She woke up about 20 minutes later screaming.  Brian went in and put her in James' crib and she immediately stopped crying and went to sleep.  We often wonder how much they are interested in each other but things like this prove just how connected they are.

Another busy week

We had lots of adventures this week and I was very lucky to have had lots of help.  On Wednesday my mom and I took JJ to Stars and Strollers at Cineplex for the first time.  We suspended the no screen time rule and let James watch Muppets Most Wanted with us.  Josie was content to just eat and sleep.
Thursday Pat again proved himself to be the baby whisperer.  Thursday night Jane came over to help me with bed time because Brian had parents night.
Today is Friday and my cousin Allie came to the baby group with us this afternoon.  Tonight Jane and Dave are over for our usual Friday night dinner and to help put the babies to bed so that Brian and I can have a short break.  I don't know why but both James and Josie have been extra fussy this week, especially in the hours before bed time.  Let's hope this is a short lived phase.

Super Sunday

We had another great weekend as a family and an especially super Sunday.
First we went to a baby shower at Jane Currie's.  The twins were amazingly well behaved the entire time!  I was nervous that they would be fussy but they were content to be held by everyone who attended.  Addy came too so there were 3 babies being passed around.
It was a book shower and the babies got lots of great books that they have already started reading.

Sunday night we went to Great-Grandma's for dinner.  We had a great visit.  You will notice in the picture that Dave and his mini-me even matched!
The babies were so excited about their gifts that they taught themselves to read.

Another busy week with twins

We had a fun and busy week this week.  Monday we took the twins in to get weighed.  Josie is 8 lbs 3 oz (3rd percentile) and James is 11 lbs 3 oz (25th percentile).  Tuesday we had a visit from Erin and Addy and then took the babies to a new Mother Goose group in Port Credit.
Wednesday I met my friend Ann and some other moms from my Facebook baby group at Square One for lunch and a little shopping.  This picture is of Josie on Wdnesday morning.  She is so bright eyed and smiley in the mornings.
Thursday was a quieter day.  Other than a trip to the gym we stayed home.  The twins are becoming so much more attentive and now love lying on their play mat and looking at/swatting all the dangling toys.
JJ have also gotten to spend lots of time with their grandparents this week.  At one point they had all three grandmothers watching them have their bath.  We also now suspect that James will enjoy travelling as much as his father as he is most easily settled in the airplane position.

Friday was also busy.  We had a visit, and some much needed girl talk, from my cousin Brenda.  Then we went to our moms and babies group and took advantage of the great weather by walking the 2 kind home.  The twins loved the walk and slept most of the way.  Friday night we had a visit from my cousin Erik before putting the babies to bed.
This week Brian and I also went in the hot tub twice after putting the babies to bed and waiting a little bit to make sure they are settled.  They are such great sleepers!
This weekend we have dinner with the Allen's and then Anne's party Saturday and a shower for the twins on Sunday!

March Break part 2

The second half of our March Break was also great.  Thursday we spent the day with Pat and Friday we headed to the cottage for a final winter weekend.  We also also asked Pay to be Josie's God Father and Kathryn to be James' God Mother.  They both accepted.  This meNs that Josie will have Vickie and Pat as her God Parents and little James will have big James and Kathryn as his God parents.
The weekend at the cottage was great for Brian and I as we had 5 baby friendly friends with us.  Between Kat, Vic, Dave, Mel and Geth there was always someone wanting to hold one of the babies.
Tomorrow Brian goes back to work and I start counting down the days until Easter break.  In the meantime we have lots of events to keep us busy over the next few weeks.

March Break with the Lackies

We spent a few days with the Lackies in Peterborough.  Our focus as a family has quickly shifted to revolve around our little ones.
 Erin, Scott and Addison

Heather and Sean getting some practice with James and Josie
 Grandma Charlotte and Addison
 Our perfect family!

Our first family walk

It was 10 degrees in Peterborough today so we took the babies for a walk.  It was lovely.

3 months old

I can't even believe it but the twins turned 3 months old yesterday.  The last three months are a blur.  If it wasn't for this blog I probably wouldn't remember anything.
Josie has been eating like a champ for the last few weeks.  I will take them to the LC next week to get them weighed but I would bet that she is over 8 lbs right now.  James, the hulk that he is, is probably around 11 lbs.  they are small for their age but they are gaining well given their very small start.
Developmentally they are also doing well.  They are smiling a lot, Josie especially.  They are following objects with their eyes and making long eye contact with us when they talk to them.  They are also able to hold their heads up on their own now, James especially.
Best of all they are amazing night sleepers!  We have developed a great night time routine and the babies have been sleeping consistently for 4-6 hours after they are first put down and then 3-4.5 hours the second time.  They don't sleep for very long during the day, just lots of short naps, but that is fine with us as long as they keep sleeping well at night.
I ordered this adorable caterpillars costume online about a month ago and it arrived just in time for a 3 month photo shoot.  Are they not the cutest kids ever?

March Break!!

The week I have been waiting for is finally here!  Brian and I get 10 uninterrupted days together with our babies!

We started the break off by having 6 mommies, 4 daddies and 8 babies over to our house for lunch on Friday.  The babies ranged in age from 6.5 months to 2 weeks old and of the 10 parents, 9 were teachers.  We had a great lunch and got to share our experiences as new parents.  I am hoping to make this a monthly lunch.
Saturday we went to Orangeville to spend the day with the Geogirls.  The girls, including Josie, went out for lunch while the dads and boys stayed home.  I always love my time with the Geogirls and with their rambunctious toddlers.  It is amazing though how our conversation and our activities have changed over the last 10 years.  A big shout out goes to Kat for being the baby whisperer all day.

Sunday we headed to Peterborough for a couple days with my family.  Our family time is all about the babies these days as we all dote over James, Josie, Addison and future baby Adey.

The twin bond

We always put the babies to sleep on their backs.  However, they almost always turn in their sleep to face each other.  It is the sweetest thing.  Today I had a great visit with my friend, and fellow twin mom, Sandy.  Not only did she help me with 2 feeding sessions but she helped me put the babies down for a nap before she left and as a result I got 45 min to myself for lunch.  This afternoon we are having a lazy day cuddling on the couch and eating ice cream.  Tonight is the Pancake Supper at church.

What a wonderful weekend

The whole Allen family had a great weekend.  Friday night Jane and Dave came over for dinner and put the babies to bed while Brian and I went in the hot tub.
Saturday we spent the day at home and then had a visit from Scott, Erin and Addy.  Saturday night the twins finally got to meet Mel and Gethin.  They were so mesmerized by the Welsh accent that they refused to go to sleep!
Sunday we went to St. Catharines with the twins for brunch with the Fasts, Sherry and Chloe.  Then a visit with Andrew, Heather and baby Henry.
I also had some break throughs of my own.  I finished my antibiotics, my blocked duct has unblocked itself and I fit into a pair of non-maternity jeans for the first time since having the babies!  It really was a wonderful weekend with great friends and family.  Now we just have 4 days until the start of March Break!
